Beyond about two and a half metres, a chandelier stops being a product and becomes a small construction package. It will not fit through a service lift, it will not survive a standard carton, and it cannot be assembled on a bench and lifted as one piece. The manufacturing question shifts from how to build it to how to deliver, assemble and hang it in a finished building.
Large fixtures are designed in modules that break down to a size the building can actually accept. We ask for door widths, lift dimensions and the route from loading bay to ceiling before finalising the split, because a fixture that cannot reach the room is a design failure regardless of how it looks in a render.
Every section carries a stamped number and a matching position on the assembly drawing. Arms, crystal trays and hardware bags are packed by section rather than by component type, so the site team opens one crate at a time and works in sequence instead of sorting through mixed boxes at height.
For a four or five metre fixture the suspension is a structural item. We issue a load schedule with the total weight, the reaction at each suspension point and the recommended anchor type, and we coordinate with the project engineer where the ceiling was not designed for a concentrated load.
Installation of the frame usually happens before final finishes, with crystal dressing after the room is clean. Our drawings mark which operations happen in each phase so the main contractor can plan access equipment once rather than three times.
A large fixture hides defects easily, so inspection happens at frame stage under power, with a lamp in every position. We photograph each section lit and unlit, and the image set travels with the shipping documents so the receiving site knows what correct looks like.
On site support is available by video call during assembly, which resolves most alignment questions within an hour and avoids a service visit.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Diameter range | 2500mm to 5000mm |
| Weight | 180kg to 900kg depending on crystal density |
| Build | Sectional, numbered, site assembled |
| Suspension | Load schedule and anchor recommendation |
| Shipping | Crated by section, route survey before build |
| Lead time | 35-50 days including engineering |
Oversized fixtures reward planning and punish improvisation. The route survey, the section split and the load schedule are unglamorous documents, but they are the difference between a two day installation and a two week dispute.
